HBO Max Coming to Roku in Time for Christmas

Movies & TV

For everyone who signed up for HBO Max recently, spurred on by the upcoming release of Wonder Woman 1984 on the streaming service on December 25, this week brings welcome follow-up news.

As someone who did just this a few weeks ago, I was frustrated to discover that there was no HBO Max app available on Roku devices. While I quickly found a workaround, it was not a great user experience, having to start watching a show in the HBO Max app on my iPhone and then using Airplay to stream it to my Roku TV.

But, the two companies worked out their differences this week and the HBO Max app became available on Roku devices as of 12/17. So, now it will be much easier to watch Wonder Woman on Christmas Day.

Following the big Christmas present, HBO Max will also be the streaming home to the entire slate of Warner Bros. releases in 2021. Each film will be released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max, at no extra cost to subscribers. It’s not hard to see how a subscription to HBO Max will be more than worthwhile for people who might choose to stay home and watch even just a few Warner Bros. feature film releases in 2021.

The full slate is expansive, but a few highlights include Dune, The Suicide Squad, and The Matrix 4, among many others.
