'I'm pansexual': 90s rock queen, 52, saves a big reveal for last
- Nov 8, 2026
Alanis Morissette has come out as pansexual, and she nearly didn't mention it at all.
The singer, 52, was a guest on the Nov. 3 episode of the Handsome podcast, hosted by comedians Tig Notaro, Fortune Feimster and Mae Martin, Us Weekly reports.
Feimster asked whether the men behind her famous breakup songs ever made her think about "swinging a different way." "Did it make you want to be a lesbian at any point?" she asked.
"I'm pansexual, so, yeah," Morissette said.
'I like to leave it for the epilogue'
Notaro, 55, couldn't quite believe it. "Wait, you're not really pansexual, are you?" she asked.
"I am," Morissette said.
When the hosts said she should have opened with that, she laughed it off. "I like to leave it for the epilogue," she said. "I like to confuse people on the way out." Then she asked: "Is it confusing?"
Feimster had a softer note for her, E! News reports. "I'm sorry for the men that hurt you, but I'm not sorry for the songs that came from it."
I like to leave it for the epilogue.

Not the first hint
Morissette has talked about her love life before. In a 2008 interview with The Advocate, she spoke about romantic encounters with women, and called exploring your sexuality a "rite of passage," Us Weekly notes.
On The Howard Stern Show, she said she felt "pretty heterosexual" while experimenting with women, and that she had felt love from the gay community since she was young: her friends were gay, and so was her first manager.
And on Call Her Daddy in September, she said she pitched Sex and the City producers a "lesbian moment" for Carrie. She ended up on the show in 2000, kissing Sarah Jessica Parker's character in a game of spin the bottle. She called it "very pleasant."
The Grammy winner behind "You Oughta Know," "Ironic" and "You Learn" has three kids with her husband, Mario "Souleye" Treadway: Ever, 14, Onyx, 9, and Winter, 6.
"'Mom' is number one for me," she told E! in June, when she was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
She's busy, too. Her Inglewood residency, Butterfly With a Machete, opened on Nov. 5. She calls it a "trauma-edy."
