'Best of luck': Hollywood star says no to his hit show's revival
- Nov 8, 2026
Adam Driver won't be going back to Girls.
The actor, who played Hannah Horvath's on-and-off love Adam Sackler on the HBO hit, was asked by CinemaBlend whether he'd return for the revival. "No, but I wish them the best of luck," he said, E! News reports.
That's about as much as he's said on the subject. And there's a lot of subject.
The memoir
In her memoir, Famesick, creator and star Lena Dunham described a difficult time working with Driver. She wrote that he once "hurled a chair at the wall" near her and was at times "verbally aggressive" on set, TheWrap reports.
She also wrote about his "feral" outbursts, and said sex scenes she had blocked "went out the window" once the cameras rolled, with Driver throwing her "this way and that," according to E!.
When the show ended in 2017, she wrote, he told her he would "always love" her. She "never heard from him again."
I have no comment on any of that. I'm saving it all for my book.
Adam Driver
Driver was asked about it at the Cannes Film Festival in May. "I have no comment on any of that," he said. "I'm saving it all for my book."
Dunham has since said the pair "had two different relationships," People reported: "one that kind of played out in our scenes together and one that played out in life."
"It never entered my mind to say, 'I am your boss, you can't speak to me this way,'" she told The Guardian.
Who is coming back
HBO announced the five-episode revival in October. Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke and Zosia Mamet are back as Hannah, Marnie, Jessa and Shoshanna, and Andrew Rannells returns as Elijah. Production starts in 2027.
It picks up 10 years after the original ended, with Hannah having left New York and given birth to a son, Grover.
"We always said we would only return to Girls if there was a specific story we were burning to tell," Dunham said. The characters "started talking to me in the shower" around her 40th birthday in May, she added.
