Bon Jovi's Life and Rock Journey Headed for the Silver Screen
- Mar 16, 2026
Universal has emerged victorious from a bidding war to produce a motion picture based on the life of Bon Jovi, the celebrated rock band responsible for hit songs such as “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “You Give Love a Bad Name,” and “It’s My Life.” The screenplay will be written by Cody Brotter, known for the forthcoming crypto thriller “Killing Satoshi,” starring Pete Davidson and Casey Affleck. As of now, decisions about the director and casting, particularly regarding key band members like Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, Tico Torres, John Shanks, Phil X, Everett Bradley, and Hugh McDonald, haven't been made.
The band, which was established in 1983, earned a spot in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. It remains unclear which segment of the band’s illustrious journey will serve as the anchor for the movie. It may focus on a single significant event, similar to "Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere," or adopt a more holistic approach similar to the Elton John biopic "Rocketman."

Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra of Religion of Sports are the producers of the Bon Jovi movie. Jacqueline Garell, Universal's director of production development, will supervise the project on behalf of the studio.
Music biographies have seen considerable success in cinemas recently, with "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Elvis," and "Bob Marley: One Love" emerging as significant hits. However, not all musician-inspired movies have been successful. Universal currently holds the international rights to the upcoming "Michael" film, a biopic of Michael Jackson, set for release in April. Meanwhile, Sam Mendes is in the process of developing four interlinked "Beatles" movies at Sony.
