"The Housemaid’s Secret," the eagerly anticipated sequel to last year's box office success "The Housemaid," will be released on Dec. 17, 2027. With its original pull in roughly $400 million worldwide on a budget of a mere $35 million, the sequel is eagerly anticipated by fans and the industry alike. Despite opening to a relatively humble $19 million, "The Housemaid" remained a popular choice throughout the festive season.

Lionsgate, the production house of this exciting R-rated thriller, plans to release the sequel during the bustling Christmas season. Notably, the release date coincides with other male-centered franchises, "Avengers: Secret Wars" and "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum."

In the sequel, Sydney Sweeney reprises her role alongside Michele Morrone, joined by newcomer to the series, Kirsten Dunst. The plot continues the tale of Sweeney's character, Millie, as she moves into a new position - keeping house for a woman she never meets, only to uncover alarming truths behind locked doors that could reveal secrets even more shocking than her own unusual backstory.

"The Housemaid’s Secret" is set to start filming later this year, under the supervision of returning director Paul Feig. Accompanying him is screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine who adapted the first book. Feig, alongside Todd Lieberman, Laura Fischer, and Sweeney herself are set to produce under their respective production companies.

Additionally, Lionsgate hopes to extend "The Housemaid" into a substantial film franchise that would include adaptations of more novels from Freida McFadden’s series, potentially including the third title, "The Housemaid Is Watching."
