Hit Biopic ‘Michael’ Based on Michael Jackson's Life Coming to Starz

The globally acclaimed biopic of Michael Jackson, "Michael," is set to debut on Starz on August 10. The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and penned by John Logan, traces Jackson's journey to stardom, starting from his journey with the Jackson 5 in the 1960s to his epic "Bad" tour in the late 1980s. Released on April 24, "Michael" has raked in over $1 billion worldwide, making it a massive hit of 2026.

Performing as Michael Jackson is his nephew, Jaafar Jackson, with Juliano Valdi playing the pop legend in his childhood. The film marks their cinematic debuts. Other noteworthy performances include Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Miles Teller as John Branca, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, and Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy. Portraying Jackson's siblings are Jamal R. Henderson as Jermaine, Tre’ Horton as Marlon, Rhyan Hill as Tito, Joseph David-Jones as Jackie, and Jessica Sula as LaToya.

The film, first announced by Lionsgate in February 2022, was joined by Fuqua and Jaafar in February 2023. Variety's critic, Owen Gleiberman, praised Jaafar’s performance, highlighting his embodiment of Michael's persona, from his appearance to his delicate yet tenacious spirit. There is anticipation that "Michael" could lead to a franchise, with a sequel potentially confirmed by Lionsgate.
