- Jun 8, 2025
In Bill Condon's latest movie musical, "Kiss of the Spider Woman", Jennifer Lopez dazzles as Ingrid Luna, a glamorous movie star best known for playing a lethal spider woman in her films. Set in the midst of Argentina's Dirty War in 1981, the story follows a gay hairdresser named Luis, played by Tonatiuh, who is serving a prison sentence. Luis gains solace by envisioning Luna's films to escape the bleak reality of prison life. Sparks fly when a Marxist prisoner, Valentin, portrayed by Diego Luna, joins Luis and they bond over their shared love of music and film.
The trailer showcases Lopez singing one of the show's classic songs, "Where You Are." Lopez, Tonatiuh, and Luna beautifully render all 13 tracks in this movie musical. The film is scripted and directed by Bill Condon, known for "Dreamgirls", with production by Artists Equity, Barry Josephson, Tom Kirdahy, and Greg Yolen.

In a review from Sundance, critic Peter Debruge praised Lopez's "smoldering" performance, predicting that the blockbuster actress could attract an audience that may not typically enjoy musicals. Yet, he also identified Tonatiuh as a standout, highlighting his ability to convey both resilience and fragility in his character.
After premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January, "Kiss of the Spider Woman" is slated for a theatrical release by Lionsgate on October 10.
