In Granite High School, the pupils are organized according to a rank system. How far the students' parents are willing to go for their children's education and future is the main theme. Three groups of high school students, each searching for their future and coping with the demands of college, are formed.

The students spend their time writing a musical based on their own experiences as gifted but worried students all concerned with getting into the best universities. A few weeks prior to the 2019 college admissions scandal, the musical Ranked debuted.
