Revamp of "Scrubs" Loses Co-Showrunner Tim Hobert
- Oct 31, 2025
Accomplished showrunner Tim Hobert has parted ways with the revival of the popular series "Scrubs" due to conflicts in creative vision, as confirmed by Variety. Following Hobert's departure, Aseem Batra, with whom Hobert co-wrote the revival's first episode, will navigate the process solely as the showrunner.
Previous "Scrubs" contributors, Hobert and Batra mutually hold an impressive palette of contributions with Hobert having served as co-executive producer, executive producer, and consulting producer, while Batra was a story editor, executive story editor, and co-producer on the original series. They had collaborated with Bill Lawrence, the original series’ showrunner who is still affiliated as an executive producer on the revival series via his banner Doozer. Other members of the executive panel are Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, and Randall Winston, who are also part of the cast reprising their original roles.

Despite his departure, Hobert will hold the credit as an executive producer for the initial episodes of the reboot. The production of the series commenced in Vancouver in early October. Along with the return of the original stars, the cast will also feature show newcomers Ava Bunn, Jacob Dudman, David Gridley, Layla Mohammadi and Amanda Morrow.
Approved directly for series by ABC in July, the "Scrubs" reboot is a venture of 20th Century Television. The original "Scrubs" had its premiere on NBC, where it ran for seven seasons from 2001 to 2008, after which the final two seasons were aired on ABC between 2009 and 2010. Hobert’s exit from the "Scrubs" revival was first reported by Deadline.
