Superstar's huge news sparks Beyoncé question
- Oct 30, 2026
For years he's been the man behind the curtain, picking who gets the biggest stage in the world.
This time, he picked himself.
Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show for the first time, the NFL, Apple Music and his company Roc Nation announced on Monday.
The news dropped during halftime of Monday Night Football's Cowboys vs Eagles game.
Super Bowl LXI is on Sunday, Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Yes, that's Valentine's Day.
And within minutes, fans were asking the same question: will Beyoncé be there?
From boss to headliner
Roc Nation has produced the halftime show with the NFL since 2019, which means the 56-year-old has helped hand-pick some of the biggest performances of recent years.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says this was the plan all along. "When we first reached an agreement with Roc Nation to produce the show, I had just one request: that Jay-Z take the stage himself one day, whenever the moment felt right to him," he said.
According to Puck, he was picked over Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.
But he once turned the gig down. Years before the Roc Nation deal, he was offered the show on the condition that he bring Kanye West and Rihanna with him.
"I said forget it. It was a principle thing," he told The New York Times in 2020.
Now he's in. "From Reasonable Doubt to standing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, this has been a journey," he said in a statement.
It caps a year of shows celebrating that album's 30th anniversary, from three sold-out nights at Yankee Stadium in July to Paris and London.
He wrapped the tour just days ago, with back-to-back shows at SoFi Stadium.
So, will Beyoncé join him?
Nothing has been announced. But she knows the stage well.
Beyoncé headlined the halftime show herself in New Orleans in 2013, then stole the show as a guest during Coldplay's set in 2016.
She has already joined him on stage once this year. Billboard reported she was among the guests he brought out at Yankee Stadium in July.
At his first SoFi show on Friday, she was in the crowd, reuniting with Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, according to TMZ.
On Sunday night the couple partied in Las Vegas, toasting 20 years of his Armand de Brignac champagne. Beyoncé, 45, wore a glamorous light green dress and was seen dancing in the VIP section, TMZ reported.
They share three kids: Blue Ivy, 14, and nine-year-old twins Rumi and Sir.
Blue Ivy has already had her SoFi moment. She played piano for her dad on "The Story of O.J." and "Dead Presidents" at Friday's show, Billboard reported.
