500 hours to make: reality queen's corset gown has fans wincing

Kim Kardashian took 500 hours of couture to the red carpet this week, and some fans are wincing just looking at it.

The reality star, 46, wore a custom gray corset gown by Ashi Studio to the New York premiere of season two of her Hulu legal drama, All's Fair, on Monday, Nov. 2, Elle reports.

The strapless gown had a structured corset bodice, Chantilly lace, sheer panels and suede cords that wrapped loosely around her arms before cascading down the skirt to a train. A matching leather collar covered much of her neck.

According to the designer, it took more than 500 hours to make. "The creation brings together the expertise of multiple artisans," Ashi Studio wrote on Instagram, "from the intricate construction of the corset and the precise application of lace" to "working with crocodile leather."

Kim first saw the gown at a fitting in Los Angeles, and it was finished at Ashi's Paris atelier with her stylist, Law Roach, who has dressed her for the whole press tour. She kept everything else simple: diamond studs, a three-stone diamond ring and a sleek ponytail.

Co-stars Sarah Paulson, Glenn Close, Naomi Watts and Niecy Nash-Betts joined her on the carpet, all in neutral tones, according to Page Six.

'Can't breathe. Can't walk'

Not everyone was won over. A Reddit post of the red carpet footage was captioned "Cant breathe. Can't walk. Looks fun," Fashion Times reports.

"So sad she's putting herself through this just to look a certain way," one commenter wrote.

Kim hasn't said she was uncomfortable, and the footage doesn't show her struggling, the outlet notes.

Then came the PJs

Two nights later she swapped the corset for something much comfier, and brought a famous friend.

Kim and Jennifer Lawrence, 36, were spotted leaving the Four Seasons Hotel in New York on Wednesday, Nov. 4, arm in arm in matching sleepwear from Kim's brand SKIMS, TMZ reports. Both wore espresso velour hooded robes over the Onyx Floral Deer print from the new holiday collection, according to theFashionSpot.

TMZ obtained video of the pair giggling on the way out, with Lawrence joking: "We are together!!!"

The pajamas came at the end of a night out: earlier, the pair had dinner at CUT in Tribeca, TAG24 reports.

The outing raised eyebrows because of Kourtney Kardashian. Last November, Lawrence told Vanity Fair that Kourtney "just drives me nuts," and on The Kardashians in October, Kourtney hit back with an expletive-filled rant. Lawrence has since apologized to her privately, according to Bored Panda.

She has been a fan of the family for years. In 2017 she guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live and interviewed Kim herself, TMZ notes.

Season two of All's Fair is streaming on Hulu now. Neither Kim nor Lawrence has commented on the night out beyond the video.
