'72 Hours': A Wild Comedy Ride Featuring Kevin Hart in Unpredictable Gen Z Territory

The recently released Netflix comedy '72 Hours', directed by Tim Story, explores the hilarious clash between a 40-year-old Millennial and a group of Gen Z individuals. Featuring Kevin Hart in the lead role, the movie boasts of an eccentric plot woven with absurd events. Hart portrays Joe, a marketing executive whose failed pitch leads him to a bachelor party with Gen Z youths, kicking off a string of crazy adventures.

Hart’s character is falsely identified as a human trafficker, a policeman, and a Cuban drug lord, adding a farcical twist to the movie. The storyline also throws him into comical situations like brawling with women in a limo and getting caught in a smuggler’s boat carrying illicit “whale parts”. Needless to say, if absurd comedy tickles your funny bone, this movie fits the bill.

The film does attempt to depict the cultural disconnect between generations, portrayed through Joe's misadventures at the party and his desperate attempts to connect with the Gen Z group. Yet, the focus remains largely on hilariously exaggerated action sequences. Despite the weak material, the young cast, all Saturday Night Live recruits, and Hart's comedic skills manage to extract laughs from the audience.

The supporting cast introduces entertaining minor characters, including a cameo from Andy Garcia, showing serious actors can indeed be funny. It also hints at a more amusing subplot with Teyana Taylor, who is stuck in the clichéd, disapproving girlfriend role. The movie ends with obligatory outtakes during the credits, showing the actors found the proceedings hilarious, if nothing else. Hence, '72 Hours' offers a wild rollercoaster of ludicrous events, capturing an amusing clash of generations.
