Amazon to Develop Animated Warhammer 40,000 Series with Henry Cavill
- Aug 9, 2026
Amazon MGM Studios, in partnership with Blur Studios and Games Workshop, is creating an animated show based on the popular tabletop war game "Warhammer 40,000". Henry Cavill, who is leading a live-action series based on the same IP at Amazon, is stepping up as an executive producer for the animated project. Developed in unison with the live-action version, the animated series will be a follow-up to the Amazon animated anthology series “Secret Level," which showcased a “Warhammer 40,000” episode when it premiered in late 2024.
Dave Wilson, the director of the “Warhammer 40,000” episode for “Secret Level”, and John Orloff are helming the development of the animated series. Though the exact plot details are yet to be disclosed, the series will center around The Deathwatch, a team of Space Marines who excel in tracking down alien threats.
The series creators have also confirmed that Tim Miller, the creator of “Secret Level,” will be joining the team as an executive producer, alongside Wilson for Blur Studios. Other executive producers include Cavill, Natalie Viscuso, Roy Lee from Vertigo Entertainment, and Andy Smillie of Games Workshop.

Amazon sees the series as an opportunity to extend their findings from the “Secret Level” anthology. Wilson shared,“The 'Warhammer' episode was met with extraordinary responses, especially by fans who appreciated our efforts to correctly represent their world. It gives us an opportunity to expand on the initial foundation and narrate a much larger story.”
This is not Amazon's first endeavour into adapting video game IPs into series. They have already successfully adapted the “Fallout” video games series and are currently working on a “Tomb Raider” live-action show featuring Sophie Turner and a live-action “God of War” show.
