As much as we might hate to admit it, we can all agree that there is only one thing truly keeping reality TV in business - dating shows. Whether you are hooked on the drama or need a reason to feel better about your love life, you can always count on a good reality dating show to do the trick. 

Once you start it is impossible to stop. And suddenly the sun is down, the question ‘are you sure you want to continue watching?’ is on your screen. Even though you have spent the entire day on your couch, you can’t stop your finger from clicking the ‘yes, continue watching’ button.

Love Is Blind

This series became a part of the craze that was the year 2020, when it was put out for streaming on Netflix. In the show, hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, a social experiment is conducted. Single men and women look for love and get engaged all before meeting or seeing each other in person. It has had two successful seasons and a handful of couples that made it past the TV screen. The beauty of the show is how it completely takes out the superficial look-based aspect of dating, forcing contestants to fall in love with personality and character before appearance. The camera captures the experience of individuals in their pods and eventually outside of the pods once they have met their match. At the end of the series, couples head to the altar where they then say “I do”, or “I don’t”. The anticipation is truly addicting! The series is available on Netflix

Too Hot To Handle

Too Hot to Handle is a spicy American-British reality television dating game show with a cash incentive at the end. On the shores of temptation island, gorgeous singles meet and mingle but nothing past that. The true antagonist of the show is Lana, a device that enforces the rules of the game. In order to win the cash prize of $100,000, the couples must restrain from intimacy of any kind. If they are unable to, Lana will deduct money from the cash prize. For some, it is impossible causing a breach of the rules, cash deduction and a lot of heat from the other contestants. As new singles continue to arrive on the island and couples switch around, the drama shakes up. This Netflix hit series has captured viewers all over! You don’t want to miss out. The Bachelor/Bachelorette

The Bachelor franchise really set the stage for reality dating TV. With 20-years on the air, this American dating show has formed many long standing relationships. In the show an eligible bachelor or bachelorette dates multiple people over the course of several weeks in hopes of finding true love at the end of the season. They complete a series of activities and go on 1-on-1 or group dates to get to know the bachelor/bachelorette better. There is a lot of drama between contestants as they vye for the love of the same individual. The series has become a national sensation and continues to make headlines all over the world. It has created a large fanbase known as “Bachelor nation”, drawn spin offs of the series in different countries and brings in a large studio audience for season finale episodes. Love Island

In this bingeable reality dating show, a group of single people move to a luxurious villa in hopes of finding love. The couples who pair off must continuously choose each other or find another match throughout their time in order to remain on the island. If they are unable to do so, they are sent home. The couples must compete and show their connection in order to win the hearts of the public who votes weekly to keep the couples on the island and eventually award one with a cash prize. On this island, there are no rules, which most certainly makes for some good drama. Hearts will break, people will turn on one another and so much more. If you are looking for an entertaining binge and the opportunity to practice your British accent, this is the show for you. The series is available on Hulu

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move on

This new Netflix dating show is unlike any other. It is intense and poses serious, life altering questions for the couples who choose to embark on the journey. In the show, hosts Nick and Vanessa Lachey join couples whose partner has given the other a marriage ultimatum. The couples spend half of their time coupled up with someone else from the group until they are reunited with the partner they came with. By the time the experiment is over, the couples will decide if they want to get married or break up and move on. It is nerve-wracking, it is real and it is addicting.
