Crater (2023) on Disney+ - Movie Review

Crater was already a science fiction series that appeared on a show called Earth: Final Conflict in 2007. When the series finished, 5 years later, it had been renewed for another 13 episodes. However, then Disney bought the rights to all of Crater and now it’s coming back stronger than ever thanks to the support of millions of viewers who watched it on Earth: Final Conflict.

What is Crater?

The story takes place in 2023 following an asteroid collision with Earth that killed billions. The people of Earth have become a highly religious and advanced society on the brink of extinction. However, humanity has come up with a solution; they black out the sun permanently and live underground. The people now live in The Subnet. There they spend their days hunting for food and killing any new enemy that comes to destroy them. The Crater tells the story of a mysterious young woman named Echo. Echo brings change to an otherwise dull Subnet life. She wants to find out the truth behind the Crater. The Crater is said to take those who go there and never return.

Why does Crater deserve its own television show?

Crater is a wonderful and intriguing sci-fi story. It not only reminds you of similar stories but also has its own unique personality. The story leaves many questions unanswered. This would make an excellent plot for an ongoing show or a short movie series in succession. The show doesn’t go into the details of how the world got to this point and doesn’t explain many aspects of the story. This gives a great opportunity to delve into those questions more fully and give more insight into the characters and the story itself. This can be done very well over an ongoing series.

There is, however, already a script for the continuation of Crater on Earth: Final Conflict. In this way, fans of the series would not have to feel cheated out of a continuation.

What can we expect from a show like Crater?

The story of Crater is full of originality and potential. It’s unlike any other science fiction story out there today. It can be enjoyed by both sci-fi fans and casual viewers alike. The story captivates you and you literally want to stay up until 11 pm to see what happens next. It’s not a complicated concept, but the writing and production of it are extremely well done. This is what makes Sci-Fi so enjoyable because it introduces new ideas and concepts that are so brilliantly thought out, it makes you wish there was an actual ongoing series.

The characters are one of the best aspects of this show. They make you feel like you are there in the action with them, and at times you get caught up in their problems as if they were your own. The characters are very well-rounded and really come to life through a very enjoyable plot. The show is full of twists that keep you on the edge of your seat, wondering what’s going to happen next. Some of these twists leave a lot to be answered, but there is always a chance for a sequel or an ongoing season where such things can be explained more fully.

Conclusion

To a casual viewer, they may not appreciate the depth of this show. But to those who are willing to look deeper, they will see many aspects that are not only outstanding in terms of storytelling but also technically impressive. I believe that with a bit more talent and experience this series can be outstanding. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever seen and I strongly encourage anyone who hasn’t seen it yet to check it out.
