The Netflix Original, Devil in Ohio, thrillingly opens with a lady running through cornfields at midnight. She feels something chasing her, and she's afraid.

She keeps going and attempts in vain to halt a car that is speeding down the road. She walks into the street, drops the knife she was holding and is eventually taken to the hospital.

Dr. Suzanne is then brought in to check on the patient after the cut.

None of the staff appear to be familiar with the girl. She was discovered in Amon County, an agricultural community well known for some fairly shady and eerie goings-on. People inside tend to be quiet.

Dr. Suzanne observes the markings across the girl's wrist, indicating that she was restrained.

Peter, Dr. Suzanne's husband, who is having problems at work, is also embroiled in drama. He has been working on a development project that has failed since the customer withdrew, and he lacks the courage to inform Suzanne.

Eventually, we discover that the unknown girl's name is Mae.

The Amon County Sheriff appears at the hospital the following day in search of Mae. Suzanne won't provide any information, especially since he shows up in handcuffs and with a threatening demeanor. She receives a slight smile from the sheriff, who then abruptly departs after saying thanks.

Mae is at risk of being put out on the street after three days pass without any family members coming to her. In order to protect the young girl from being abandoned, Suzanne decides to take her in.

Detective Lopez arrives at the medical facility. He's been given her case, and compared to the other sheriff who walks in right after, he seems more reliable.

The unsettling pentagram that was cut into Mae's skin is shown as the episode comes to a close.
