Dramatic Unfoldings in "The Bear" Season 4: A Review
- Jul 3, 2025
Season 4 of "The Bear", a highly rated drama series, maneuvers through the challenging journey of a restaurant, The Bear, aiming to recover its lost reputation after a damaging review. This season shines light on the passionate yet unpredictable chef Carmen "Carmy" Berzatto, and the team as they navigate through emotional turmoil and monetary struggles to regain their footing.
Similar to the restaurant's situation, the series too, faces a difficult path after the polarized reception of the over-ambitious third season. The show had been appreciated for its unique storytelling but lost its charm due to its monotonous and self-indulgent nature. The challenge ahead of the creators, Christopher Storer and Joanna Calo is to overcome the show's weaknesses and redeem its identity.
Season 4 shows a significant improvement, shifting the limelight from the protagonist to other central characters like pastry chef Marcus and chef de cuisine Sydney, who were previously neglected. Although the show seemed like it's making amends, it still lacked the complexity and depth that made it initially successful.
The predicament created at the end of Season 3 continue to unfold, often leading to unsatisfactory resolutions, particularly in Sydney's storyline. The recurring motifs and Carmy's unwavering obsession with perfection seem to have pushed fan's patience to its limits.

However, there has been progression both in the narrative of the show and the restaurant's trajectory in Season 4. Carmy begins to trust Sydney while line cook Ebra takes charge of The Bear’s takeout window, adding a fresh perspective. The introduction of new minor characters added depth, and the season concludes with a potential shift in focus from Carmy, signaling a possibly fresh start.
While there have been rumors about the show's end due to the rise of the cast's stardom, we can only hope this is not the end. Rather than the end, season 4 seems to be the beginning of a new era for "The Bear". It would be interesting to see the narrative shift from Carmy to the broader spectrum of people behind restaurants, truly capturing the essence of the culinary world.
"The Bear" Season 4 is now available on Hulu.
