In episode 9 of Emily in Paris, Emily is over her uncomfortable night with Gabriel. She surprises Alfie at the railway station when he returns to Paris from London. The reunion spoils when Emily discovers that her boyfriend hasn't told his family about her. Yikes. She's clearly upset, but they blow it aside.

Later that day, Gabriel texts Antoine to meet about "elevating the restaurant," requesting a Michelin star and a raise. Antoine considers it.

Emily tells Mindy about Alfie during their coffee break that day. Mindy advises Emily to be patient. Mindy's counsel, including encouraging Emily not to inform Gabriel about Camille's affair, seems questionable. She also accuses Emily of "choosing work over me" during the Cadault store launch. She forgives her and asks Emily to a celebration to complete her jazz club residency.

Later that night, Emily asks Alfie for help with a new client's campaign featuring IRL couples engaging at Gabriel's restaurant bar. Gabriel conveniently enters and announces his intention to propose to Camille. Maybe not after declaring his love for Emily in the last episode. I retract my claim that this man is smart. Emily exclaims, “I'm so pleased for you.” Persuasive!

After hearing about Emily's client, Alfie advises employing Camille and Gabriel in the campaign, putting Emily in an uncomfortable place, but she agrees. Gabriel? Undecided. Before agreeing, he goes to the kitchen.

He texts Emily late at night and agrees to meet the next morning to look at the proposal and campaign venues. While looking, Emily asks Gabriel why he wants an engagement after Camille returned from Greece. After spilling his heart (and whisky) to Emily in a cab, I'm wondering why he's about to propose.

The next day at Sylvie's agency, Sylvie, Julien, and Luc have lunch and Julien is furious because Emily discovered Camille and Gabriel for his client's campaign, not hers. While Julien rants, Luc, who invited himself to lunch, enjoy his food and is mortified when soup gets on his shirt. He's maximizing his screen time as the wacky coworker. Season 4: More Mr. White Lotus!

At Gabriel's restaurant, Antoine and Alfie tell him he's not getting a raise, but Gabriel is getting a piece in the business and more ownership, making Antoine his "silent partner." Gabriel texts Camille the news. At Musée d'Orsay, the two reminisce about one of their first dates and stare into each other's eyes, seeming quite a in love.

Camille proposes to Gabriel immediately, adopting his words. He says yes and phones Emily to announce his engagement, saying, “I hope this doesn't screw anything up for you.” Emily ends the call and resumes her appointment with Julien's campaign client, unfazed. She tells them the pair is no longer available, then gives a spiel on making and selling love before suggesting floating couples in hot air balloons instead of catching a proposal. Julien is annoyed Emily is bulldozing him again.

From Sylvie's fine opera to Mindy's party, Emily tries to reconcile with Nicolas, who is unforgiving. He tells Mindy that Emily was leaving after she apologizes for the Cadault disaster. Emily doesn't push back, and Nicolas seems like a terrible guy (he's tearing Emily away from the one person she has chemistry with on this show!), but Emily puts her friend's happiness before her own, which backfires when Mindy is upset after Emily has to make up an excuse about a work dinner to leave like Nicolas wants her to.
Emily has a more romantic idea. She suggests the hot air balloon campaign reveal their love. The next day, they're air-kissing over France.

Episode 9 of Emily in Paris Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.
