According to ABC’s official synopsis, the distinctive episode was partially filmed at Dropout's own studios in Los Angeles. The plot suggests an engaging narrative with Harper and Miles addressing their past errors, Harper taking up the training of Miles, and Nolan and Celina responding to a theft call at Dropout TV Studios.

Fans who miss the original ABC airing, will be able to catch the special “Rookie” episode the following day on Hulu. Dropout, which transitioned from CollegeHumor in 2024, has seen an uptick in popularity, recently reaching a milestone of 1 million paid subscribers and boosting its production, development, and marketing teams. Before breaking the news about the "The Rookie" crossover, Dropout premiered its first-ever licensed series, the UK comedy “Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared”.
