Fairyland: Sofia Coppola's Coming of Age Masterpiece To Hit Theaters

Lionsgate and WILLA are joining forces to co-release Sofia Coppola's production, “Fairyland”, which is slated for a theater release on October 10. The film, penned, produced, and directed by gifted filmmaker Andrew Durham, is a visual adaptation of the critically acclaimed memoir by Alysia Abbott. Set against the effervescent cultural milieu of the 70s and 80s San Francisco, Fairyland is an evocative tale of growth and maturity and an exploration of a father-daughter relationship amid the fluxes of bohemian excess and the poignant times of the AIDS crisis.

“Fairyland” flaunts a star-studded cast including Emilia Jones, Scoot McNairy, Cody Fern, Maria Bakalova, Bella Murphy, and veterans Adam Lambert and Geena Davis. Rising actor Nessa Dougherty also makes her debut in the film.

Speaking on the film's emotional resonance, Amelia McPartlon Rogers, EVP of Content Strategy & Marketing Integration for the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group characterized Fairyland as a “beautiful and deeply personal film” that provides a riveting perspective of a specific yet universal parent-child relationship in an era of constant change.

The film already boasts of a wave of positive reviews having made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, and further showings at various film festivals including Biarritz, Palm Springs, and Frameline where it was selected as the opening night film.

Director Durham lauded the support he received from Sofia Coppola and production company American Zoetrope, the talented cast and crew, and the team at WILLA and Lionsgate in bringing this unconventional yet relatable story to life.

In anticipation of the film release, WILLA is set to roll out an integrated impact campaign and audience engagement strategy to promote dialogue around the social issues portrayed in the film.
