"Fixed": The Animation That Squashes Stereotypes

Movies & TV

- Jun 13, 2025

Genndy Tartakovsky’s animated feature, “Fixed,” contradicts the conventional belief that animations are designed only for children. It is crude in every sense, from its raunchy humor to a raw animation style, creating a sharp contrast to films like “Lady and the Tramp”. The main character is a lustful rescue dog called Bull (voiced by Adam Devine), who discovers he is about to be neutered. Bull's attempts to avoid this fate drives the plot of this adult humor comedy, produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released on Netflix.

The humor in "Fixed" stands out for the sheer audacity and boldness of its wit, mocking social norms and escalating shock value throughout the narrative. This approach positions it among a very few animations that cater to mature themes and audiences. The racy setup revolves around Bull feeling superior to neutered dogs at the park, loving Honey, a purebred Afghan hound next door, and plotting to avoid neutering. Comedy ensues as Bull runs away, goes through wild experiences, and eventually realizes that freedom might not be his ultimate desire.

Furthering the film’s disregard for righteousness are scenes such as one where the grandmother mistakes Bull's excitement for her lipstick, and another where Bull’s testicles declare independence. These scenes illustrate the creator's unabashed pursuit to carve a niche in adult animation. This comedic strategy places it well among classics like Tex Avery and Roger Rabbit shorts that were kid-friendly in appearance but had adult undercurrents.

“Fixed” mainly serves as a dog-centric version of "American Pie". Despite his mounting desires, Bull is, in fact, a virgin and his quest to lose virginity takes the film to outrageous and scandalous territories. Inside such a debauched setting, the film surprisingly ties together emotions reflecting on Bull's actions and the steps he must take to redeem himself. The film ends on a note suggesting that even the most lustful of dogs can learn new tricks.
