Amy holds a photo remembering the fall of 2000 when she went to Explore Florence

Sloane, a bartender, hired her and told her to find a guy to Explore Florence. Sloane walks home and meets her roommates, Caroline and Lindsay.

Amy starts an art course and calls her sister, Zora. They discuss their father’s opposition to Amy delaying law school.

She meets Sloane's friend, Lino, a chef, and Giancarlo. She visits Giancarlo’s family’s art gallery. They start dating.

Amy sees Lino at work, and he walks her home at Sloane’s request. They discover things they have in common, except for Amy preferring French cuisine over Italian. Lino offers Amy a bike, but she refuses, explaining she is dating someone else. Lino says the bike isn’t valuable and invites her and her roommates to his restaurant. Amy accepts the bicycle and the invitation. Lino outdoes himself, making Caroline and Lindsey think Amy and Lino are in a relationship.

Amy questions her artistic talent to Zora. Zora reassures her and tells her their father and stepmother, Maxine, are coming to Florence.

Lino accepts Amy’s “just friends” restrictions and agrees to show her Florence. She tells Lino about her conflict with her dad and her desire to display her art at the graduation exhibition.

Her father arrives and pushes law school. Amy says she is dating someone and may not start law school. Amy’s father wants to meet her boyfriend, so they dine at Lino’s restaurant. Giancarlo is late, so Lino meets her parents first. Amy’s father doesn’t like either man.

Lino isn’t happy when Giancarlo shows up. Lino says they shouldn’t see each other. Amy misses Lino the time. Lino shows up at the exhibition, and she invites him to her apartment. They spend the night together.
