It’s taken time, but movie theaters are definitely back in action, welcoming fans to a slowly growing number of potential blockbuster movies this summer. Check out this list of a few fun movies coming to a theater near you in August 2021.
The Suicide Squad - Friday, August 6
This sequel to Suicide Squad (2016) is expected to be a hard-R rated action, comedy, superhero romp with Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and another group of disposable villains out to save themselves and the world.
Don’t Breathe 2 - Friday, August 13
This sequel to 2016’s Don’t Breathe, where a group of robbers breaks into the house of a blind military veteran, expecting an easy score. Clearly, they picked the wrong house. Part 2 jumps ahead, where the hero of the first film must save a young orphan from a group of kidnappers.
Free Guy - Friday, August 13
Ever wondered what would happen if the non-player-characters in a video game (those side characters that fill in the background) became aware of their predicament and started ignoring the rules? Free Guy gives us a look at that scenario as a mild-mannered bank teller (Ryan Reynolds) in an open-world video game becomes the hero.
The Protege - Friday, August 20
There’s a long history of movies where a young character steps into the shows of their mentor after they pass away. In the action genre, these are often investigators, warriors, spies, or assassins, and their mentors are often murdered. That appears to be the case in The Protege, where a younger assassin (Maggie Q) takes vengeance on the people who betrayed and killed her mentor (Samuel Jackson).
Reminiscence - Friday, August 20
This sci-fi thriller takes us into a post-apocalyptic world where global warming has flooded cities and has society looking at a less than pleasant future. A private investigator who helps people recover lost memories (Hugh Jackman) becomes involved in a conspiracy while helping one of his clients.
Candyman - Friday, August 27
This sequel to Candyman (1992) and the fourth film in the franchise. This sequel brings the story into the present day, where a visual artist begins to explore the horrific legend of the ghostly murderer, opening a door to the past and a fresh wave of murders.
