Legendary Studios has signed a three-year agreement for Paramount to distribute its films, beginning with the much-anticipated adaptation of Capcom's video game, Street Fighter. Under the stewardship of director Kitao Sakurai, the film now has a scheduled release date of October 16, 2026. Currently in production, Paramount and Legendary recently revealed the initial plot details of the movie, which will be set in the year 1993, coinciding with the release of the celebrated video game, Street Fighter II, in arcades.

The storyline is as follows: “In 1993, Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) stumble back into action when they are enlisted by the enigmatic Chun-Li (Callina Liang) for the imminent World Warrior Tournament - a ruthless display of fist fighting, destiny, and wrath. Amidst this melee lies a lethal conspiracy compelling them to confront each other and the specters of their past. If they fail to do so, it signifies GAME OVER!”

The deal with Legendary, which is now official, was rumored as early as August 18. This follows the conclusion of its distribution deal with Sony at the close of 2024. Notably, Warner Bros., Legendary’s prior collaborator, will persist in distributing key franchises such as the anticipated sequel to the near $1 billion hit A Minecraft Movie.

Street Fighter boasts a comprehensive cast that includes Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, and Callina Liang as Chun-Li. The cast further includes Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i (Akuma), David Dastmalchian (M. Bison), and Jason Momoa (Blanka).

Josh Greenstein, co-chair of Paramount Pictures, and vice chair of platforms, and Dana Goldberg, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures, and Chair of Paramount Television, expressed their excitement about partnering with Legendary on the globally appealing Street Fighter movie. Josh Grode, CEO of Legendary, views the collaboration as an exciting new phase for the studio.

The acquisition of Street Fighter is just one in a series of significant early steps by David Ellison’s revamped Paramount. In its quest to provide compelling content, Paramount has secured the Duffer Bros. from Netflix, finalized a $7.7 billion contract for UFC rights, and secured a first-look film deal with Will Smith's Westbrook.
