In a notable partnership, Not Your Daddy’s Films, a social impact company devoted to facilitating education and growth for women and nonbinary filmmakers, has secured fiscal sponsorship from Film Independent, an esteemed non-profit independent media arts authority.

Not Your Daddy’s Films, based in Los Angeles, is presently celebrating its fourth year. The enterprise was co-established in 2022 by Kourtney Bell, Katherine Hughes, Nicole Lipp, Vika Stubblebine, and Carlye Tamaren - a group of multifaceted professionals yearning to redress the ongoing gender disparity and lack of diversity behind the movie camera landscape.

The group's founders stated collectively, “Our genesis for NYDF was rooted in the desire for a community that was previously unavailable - ambitious, approachable, and genuinely enjoyable. Becoming a fiscally sponsored project of Film Independent gives us the chance to maintain the momentum generated over the past four years, continuing to boost and fortify filmmakers, while preserving the vibrant atmosphere that initially attracted our audience."

Starting as a bi-monthly screening hub for a tight-knit group of 25 people, NYDF has blossomed into a vibrant community with events consistently attracting over 300 participants. In its four-year journey, the group has organized screenings, workshops, panel discussions, and gatherings focusing on women and non-binary filmmakers. They have also collaborated with prolific industry bodies such as the American Cinematheque, Alliance of Women Directors, SXSW, Women In Film (WIF), and The Black List.

Adding to its accomplishments, NYDF expanded its influence beyond Los Angeles through its podcast, “Daddy Dailies,” which highlights women and non-binary creatives. Prominent guests on this podcast have included film industry figures such as Patty Jenkins, Diablo Cody, Meaghan Oppenheimer, Mary Bronstein, Ashley Nicole Black, Lena Khan, Hannah McMechan, and Danya Jimenez.

The group envisages the enhanced funding from Film Independent to expand its outreach program by hosting more screenings, advancing its education programming, developing more resources for emerging filmmakers, extending its advisory leadership, and bolstering organizational structure. They also plan to deepen the podcast influence, establish a stronger presence at major film festivals, and create direct channels for filmmakers to explore professional opportunities.
