Heralded crime drama series “MobLand”, has confirmed its second season on Paramount+, according to a report by Variety. The show, which premiered in March, wrapped up its first season on June 1. Over the course of six weeks, the drama solidified its position in the Nielsen Top 10 original series chart, cementing its status among viewers.

The first episode has reportedly drawn an impressive audience of 26 million worldwide in its first 70 days of release, calculated by total watch time divided by the total duration of the episode. This has secured the series a spot as Paramount+'s second most-watched original series, falling just behind Taylor Sheridan’s “Landman.”

Jez Butterworth, the writer and executive producer of the series, expressed his excitement about delving into the second season of "MobLand,” praising the team's creativity and strategic insight. With a gripping narrative revolving around the London-based Harrigan crime family, aided by their faithful aide Harry Da Souza, enacted by Tom Hardy, the series offers a thrilling exploration of their efforts towards retaining power while battling authorities and rival criminals.

An accomplished ensemble cast, including notable stars like Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren, and Paddy Considine further boost the series' appeal, significantly contributing to its success. The series was brought to life by the combined efforts of executive producers Ronan Bennett, Jez Butterworth, and Guy Ritchie, who also directed the initial two episodes.

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, applauded the creative brilliance of the show, attributing its triumph to the contributions of the team and actors. He further expressed enthusiasm about renewing this top-charting series for a second season.

The renewal of "MobLand" marks the second show created by Butterworth to secure a second season under his current contract with Paramount+. His other project, "The Agency", co-developed with his brother John-Henry Butterworth, is also following suit.

Initially intended to be a British interpretation of Showtime’s “Ray Donovan," "MobLand" evolved into a standalone series with no ties to the aforementioned show during its development. Production for the second season is already in progress.
