Paris-Based Indie Sales Acquires Rights to Indian Film "Stay"

Indie Sales, based in Paris, has secured international rights to the second feature from Indian writer-director Rohena Gera, "Stay". Gera saw success with her debut film, "Sir", which premiered at the Critics' Week at Cannes 2018 and won the Gan Foundation Award.

The main roles of "Stay" are played by Pallavi Sharda, known for "Wedding Season", and Julien de Saint-Jean, previously seen in "The Count of Monte Cristo". The film is in post-production and will be introduced to buyers at the first market in Toronto. It will have a theatrical release in France by Ad Vitam.

The plot of "Stay" revolves around Sailee (played by Sharda), a recent divorcee residing in India, who is in line to take over her father's thriving business. During her trip to Paris, she falls for Leo (played by de Saint-Jean), a delivery driver with aspirations of becoming an actor. Their relationship is strained by family expectations, class differences, and the economic and cultural realities of their lives in India and France.

Charlotte Boucon, deputy managing director at Indie Sales, expressed their excitement to be working with Gera again, saying, "We look forward to introducing buyers to 'Stay,' a heartwarming and subtle romantic comedy that tackles questions of class and cultural difference much like Rohena's first hit film".

The film is being produced by Alice Bloch through Marianne Prods and co-produced by France 2 Cinéma. Additional pre-orders have been made by Canal+, Ciné+ OCS, and France Télévisions.
