Ridley Scott Anticipates a New Chapter in Alien Franchise

Renowned film director Ridley Scott, at the age of 88, shows no signs of hanging up his director's hat. Audiences can expect to feast their eyes on "The Dog Stars" starring Jacob Elordi slated for release this coming Friday. In addition, Scott is also looking to reinvent "Treasure Island" featuring Hugh Jackman. However, the climax of his announcement pertains to a third “Alien” prequel.

Slated as the next chapter in the much-loved franchise, it will delineate the journey of character David from “Alien: Covenant,” portrayed by Michael Fassbender, carving a “brave new world for himself,” as Scott shared in a recent L.A. Times interview. The character David is depicted as a dysfunctional AI android serving as a maintenance crew member on the Prometheus.

Speaking on the potential dangers of AI, Scott expressed, “AIs can go off. And if they do, it’s like a bomb.” Scott, well-known for his movies exploring artificial intelligence and robotics, including “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” confessed his concerns about AI in filmmaking. He mused on the quality of AI being dependent on the information it's been given and the fear of it evolving beyond human intelligence, stating, “the danger is it’ll pass that point and become smarter than we are.”

Scott, a three-time nominee for best director and a co-nominee for best picture for “The Martian,” will be receiving an honorary Oscar at the Governor’s Awards in November. The shooting for "Treasure Island" is scheduled to commence in the same month.
