The episode starts with Kevin and Ilonka arriving home to discover Anya unconscious on the bedroom floor. After receiving CPR from Ilonka, her roommate revives through vomiting. Anya immediately notices the dark shape in the side of her room upon waking and screams wildly in response to its intimidating presence. This, the midpoint in the series, has a heart-pounding beginning.

Ilonka visits Anya's recovery room the following morning and speaks with Dr. Stanton about her concerns. Dr. Stanton informs Ilonka that Anya attempted suicide on morphine and had a do not revive (DNR) directive on record. If reviving her went against Anya's intentions, Ilonka feels horrible about it, but Dr. Stanton commends her for not merely watching while her friend passes away.

Ilonka pays her a check in the recovery area since she feels misinformed about her roommate's preferences. Anya emphasizes how high she was from her medications and downplays her fits of hysteria while denying seeing anything paranormal.

Ilonka tells Kevin (Igby Rigney), whom she is with on the beach, about the book they discovered in the bookstore. The book is the diary of Athena, a sixteen-year-old girl whose mother created the Paragon in 1931. Following the deaths of her husband from pneumonia and her son from polio, the mother, Regina Ballard, founded the Paragon as a new-age medical collective.

As they get ready for Amesh's party, Kevin gets updated on the cult's past. Ilonka is convinced that the Midnight Club, Julia Jayne, and the cult are all interconnected. She believes that Julia started the club in the original basement where The Paragon offered their blood sacrifices after reading about the cult. Julia was miraculously cured and was able to leave the hospice. But Ilonka wants to know precisely how everything is connected.
