Unveiling Michael Jackson's Life: 'Michael' Hitting Theaters in April
- Jul 30, 2025
The biopic on Michael Jackson, titled “Michael”, has now rescheduled its release date from earlier in October to April 24, globally covering both standard theatres and Imax. Lionsgate is taking up the task of releasing the film domestically, while Universal will handle distribution internationally, except for Japan where Kino Films will distribute.
The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and has John Logan as the screenwriter, while Michael Jackson's nephew, Jaafar Jackson, steps into his late uncle's shoes for the role. The production has been handled by the Academy Award-winning producer, Graham King.
The movie narrates the global superstar’s rise to fame and how he came to be known globally as the 'King of Pop'. It offers a personal insight into the life and enduring impact of one of the world's most groundbreaking artists.

The earlier plan of releasing the film in 2026 was given a nod by the Lionsgate CEO, Jon Feltheimer. Due to reshoots and the lengthy initial cut, the movie ended production in May 2024 instead of the originally planned October date. The overall expenditure reached around $155 million.
The star cast includes notable actors like Colman Domingo, Nia Long as family leaders Joe and Katherine Jackson, and Miles Teller as Jackson's legal advisor, John Branca. Other familiar faces include Larenz Tate as Berry Gordy, the founder of Motown Records, with Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, a music executive, and Kat Graham as Diana Ross. Supporting actors include Jessica Sula, Liv Symone, Kevin Shinick, KeiLyn Durrel Jones, and Kendrick Sampson, playing other significant roles in Michael Jackson's life.
