Laika's latest stop-motion animated film, "Wildwood", has found its domestic distributor in Fathom Entertainment. The film is set for its U.S. release on October 23rd, with Filmnation Entertainment managing the international sales.
Based on Colin Meloy’s novels, "Wildwood" follows a girl's thrilling quest to rescue her baby brother. The adventure involves a journey into an enchanted forest brimming with magical creatures, unlikely allies, and daunting enemies. In choosing their sides, these characters fight for an entire hidden realm hanging in the balance.
The film has an ensemble voice cast including Carey Mulligan, Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Awkwafina, Jake Johnson, Charlie Day, Amandla Stenberg, Jemaine Clement, Maya Erskine, Tantoo Cardinal, Tom Waits and Richard E. Grant.

The partnership with Fathom follows recent successful theatrical re-releases of Laika's films like "Coraline" and a remastered "ParaNorman". David Burke, Laika’s Chief Marketing and Operations Officer, said that their custom approach to "Wildwood" keeps Laika’s independence while aligning with world-class collaborators to support the film's ambitions.
The Laika team shares a sense of pride in their work and excitement for audience reception. Producer Travis Knight describes "Wildwood" as the "biggest world Laika has ever built" and highlights the film’s celebration of artistry over algorithms. The strategic partnership with Fathom and FilmNation guarantees that "Wildwood" will be a shared cinematic experience.
Ray Nutt, Chief Executive Officer at Fathom Entertainment, commended "Wildwood" as a milestone in handcrafted cinematic artistry that will mesmerize audiences this October. The agreement to distribute "Wildwood" in U.S. cinemas embodies Fathom Entertainment’s growth as a full-service specialty theatrical distributor.
