Animated Feature Film "Tangles" Releases New Trailer
- Oct 29, 2026
The animated feature film, "Tangles", recently launched a new trailer prior to its scheduled release. The film, under the auspices of the Independent Film Company (formerly IFC) and Sapan Studio, is an adaptation of Sarah Leavitt's acclaimed memoir, "Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mother and Me". Script transformed by Leah Nelson, Trev Renney, and Sarah herself, the film utilises predominantly black-and-white animation to convey its emotional narrative.
"Tangles" presents a sensitive yet surprisingly humorous depiction of a family grappling with significant change, charting the impact of early-onset Alzheimer's and the universal ties between parents and children. The narrative further explores the identities shaped away from home while illustrating the humor and resilience that prevail even as memory fades.
The star-studded voice cast includes Abbi Jacobson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Beanie Feldstein, Seth Rogen, and Samira Wiley. Nelson recently spoke about her decade-long journey in bringing "Tangles" to life at the Middleburg Film Festival, crediting supporters such as Rogen and his wife, Lauren Miller Rogen. The couple, whose relationship began two decades ago as Lauren's mother Adele showed initial symptoms of the disease, contributed significantly to the film's creation, both in production and emotional input.

Speaking about the adaptation, Lauren connected deeply with the script as it mirrored her own experience with her mother's Alzheimer's diagnosis. “The stark black and white [animation] held the space for how complicated this disease was," she said, emphasizing the importance of presenting emotionally complex moments within simplistic visual frames. Seth highlighted the challenge and importance of infusing humor into such a serious topic, as it created an engaging balance that reflected the lived experience of families encountering Alzheimer's.
Produced by an ensemble including Vicky Patel, Steve Barnett and Alan Powell of Monarch Media; Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Alex McAtee and Madeline Blair of Point Grey Pictures; and Louis-Dreyfus among others, "Tangles" is set for a qualifying theatrical run next month.
