Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz Back for Another 'The Mummy' Installment
- Nov 8, 2025
Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are gearing up for another round of "The Mummy" excitement. The upcoming fourth part of this long-lasting adventure franchise will be helmed by acclaimed directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, popularly recognised as Radio Silence. Their notability rose with their contributions to the 2019 film "Ready or Not" and the revitalisation of the "Scream" series for Paramount in 2022. Universal, which produced the original monster films, did not offer a comment.
Fraser and Weisz originally joined cinematic forces in the successful 1999 revival of "The Mummy." The film tells the story of a fortune seeker who unintentionally arouses a hexed Egyptian priest possessing supernatural powers. This film catapulted Fraser into the spotlight as a dependable action star. Fraser went on to star in two more sequels in 2001 and 2008, but Weisz only featured in the first. The studio attempted to resurrect "The Mummy" with Tom Cruise in 2017, but the movie was a commercial letdown, failing to jumpstart the studio's planned "Dark Universe."

After moving away from the film industry for personal, health reasons, and an upfront allegation of assault against the past president of HFPA, Fraser made an award-winning return with 2022's "The Whale." During the press tour for "The Whale," Fraser hinted at being willing to revisit his loved character, Rick O'Connell, in another sequel of "The Mummy."
When discussing the failed 2017 reboot of "The Mummy" led by Cruise, Fraser attributed its downfall to the lack of enjoyment it offered. According to him, fun was the unique ingredient that made the original movies so relatable, making them more of a thrilling rollercoaster rather than a pure horror movie.
