FX Pulls the Plug on 'English Teacher' After Two Seasons
- Nov 24, 2025
FX has put an end to 'English Teacher', a comedy series by Brian Jordan Alvarez, after just two seasons, as confirmed by Variety. Alvarez played the titular character, Evan Marquez, a high school English teacher in Austin dealing with a variety of scandals, both personal and political. Noteworthy cast members included Stephanie Koenig, Sean Patton, Carmen Christopher, Jordan Firstman, and Enrico Colantoni, amongst others.
'English Teacher' was premiered in September 2024, followed by a second season in September the following year. The first season featured a traditional weekly model for new episodes, however, the entire second season was released on a binge model, with all 10 episodes released simultaneously.

Interestingly, Alvarez was accused of sexual assault by Jon Ebeling, a former friend and co-actor from a 2015 web series 'The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo'. These accusations, which were later elaborated upon in a New York Magazine article, were made just before the launch of the first season of 'English Teacher.' Despite the allegations, FX chose to renew the series for a second season. The network decided not to discuss the allegations in their press release regarding the renewal but instead praised the show's performance and creative excellence.
'English Teacher' was primarily produced by Alvarez, Paul Simms, Jonathan Krisel, Dave King, Kathryn Dean, Jake Bender, and Zach Dunn in association with FX Productions.
