Madman Entertainment, Peccadillo Pictures, and Edko Films have acquired the distribution rights for the Mexican drama-thriller “On the Road” (En el Camino) in Australia/New Zealand, UK/Ireland, and Hong Kong/Macau respectively. Directed by David Pablos, the film made its debut at the Venice Film Festival where it garnered the Horizons Award for best film and the Queer Lion for the best movie with an LGBT theme.

M-Appeal controls the international sales of the movie and is looking forward to closing more deals at the upcoming Ventana Sur. The movie has already been acquired by various distributors globally including Strand Releasing (North America), Filmware (Taiwan), I Wonder Pictures (Italy), Festival Films (Spain), Salzgeber (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), and Cinépolis for Latin American distribution. Some of these distributors are planning for theatrical releases.

“On the Road” convincingly intertwines a touching love saga into a thrilling script, thereby "exploring emotional layers that broaden its appeal”, as described by M-Appeal. Through its vivid realism, the film presents a captivating insight into the daily life of Mexican long-haul truckers. The film's leading producers are Inna Payán from Animal de Luz Films, and Diego Luna, well-known for "Andor" and "Narcos". Luna has co-produced this film under his company, La Corriente del Golfo, which he co-founded with Gael García Bernal.

The movie's plot follows the life of Veneno, a rebellious wanderer who frequents highway eateries and develops relationships with truck drivers. When he desperately needs transportation, he crosses paths with Muñeco, a solitary and seasoned long-haul driver. Veneno convinces Muñeco to accompany him deep into the hyper-masculine trucking highways of northern Mexico, leading them on a journey that reveals their vulnerabilities. As they foster an unexpected closeness, Veneno's past catches up with him, endangering both their lives.

The production of "On the Road" was a collaborative effort involving Animal de Luz, La Corriente del Golfo, The Maestros Cine, EFD Studios, Terminal Films, and Producciones Año Bisiesto, and gained support from Mexico’s Eficine tax incentive and the CNC.
