Jurassic World Rebirth: A Mixed Reception
- Jun 23, 2025
The much-anticipated film "Jurassic World Rebirth" has been released to the press, and it’s eliciting a varied range of responses on social media. Directed by Gareth Edwards, who previously handled "Rogue One" and "Godzilla", this latest addition to the 32-year-old dinosaur franchise stars Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali.
Variety’s Jazz Tangcay seemed enthralled by the film, praising its new dinosaurs and noting it as a fitting tribute to the original franchise. Similarly, Perri Nemiroff appreciated the balanced use of CGI set pieces, commending Edwards' choice to film in real locations, which added to the tangible quality of the film.
However, not all reactions were positive. John Flickinger of YouTube’s “The Flick Pick” described the film as lacking in depth, highlighting its forgettable scenes, character underdevelopment, and storyline deficiencies.

"Jurassic World Rebirth" is set five years after the events of 2022’s "Jurassic World Dominion.", focusing on a team of mercenaries and scientists who are sent to a forbidden island to retrieve dinosaur blood, which may hold the cure for heart disease.
Scarlett Johansson expressed her excitement at being part of the franchise in an interview with Vanity Fair, stating her long-term interest in the Jurassic series.
The film, set to hit theaters on July 2nd, has generated other reactions across the spectrum. From those praising its marriage of majesty and terror to critics pointing out its predictability and sentimentality, the reception is decidedly mixed.
