After a suspenseful season finale of Paramount+ series, Landman, it was confirmed that Jon Hamm's character, the oil tycoon Monty Miller, is no more. This was revealed by Christian Wallace, who co-created the hit series with Yellowstone mastermind Taylor Sheridan. The actor is appreciative for the one-season role in the oil industry drama, which he found spectacular to work on.

With Monty’s demise, his oil firm M-Tex is inherited by his oldest associate, Tommy Norris, portrayed by Billy Bob Thornton. Following an agreement with the devil (played by guest star Andy Garcia) to coexist in the oil patch with the cartel, Norris prepares for the future.

There's a possible second season, hinted at by high ratings and plans from the co-creators. Thornton too has expressed interest in continuing the series. Hamm anticipates how Monty’s absence will enhance both Norris and Monty’s widow Cami (Demi Moore) when the show presumably makes a return.

When asked what lured him to Monty's character, Hamm mentioned working with Taylor Sheridan and Billy Bob Thornton as a major influence. Hamm noted the show's deep metaphorical expressions that stimulate viewers' imaginations. As he visualizes the future of M-Tex under Norris's leadership, Hamm views it as a classic case of "be careful what you wish for."

Landman Finale: Uncovering Jon Hamm's Uncertain Fate

Hamm offers insight on a scene with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, confirming it was improvized. This was made possible through Sheridan's relationship with the sports mogul. The conversation revolved around the tragedy of Monty, absorbing vital life advice while on his deathbed, and not being able to implement it.

Though Hamm isn't certain about Monty's advice to Norris had he been alive, he envisages Norris truly understanding the implications of being at the helm of M-Tex. As for Monty's widow Cami, Hamm sees both anger and hurt, which will likely propel her character to a larger role in the possible second season.

Jon Hamm, though content with his time on Landman and positioning it as an once-in-a-lifetime experience, is open for possibilities to perform in another Taylor Sheridan creation. As an actor, he's grateful for the challenging roles and conquering the audience without replicating his Mad Men's character, Don Draper. Despite Monty's on-screen end, Hamm promises his fans, there will be plenty of him onscreen in a new show slated for an April release on Apple, "Your Friends and Neighbors."
