Marlon Wayans Defends His New Film 'Him' Amid Negative Critiques
- Oct 1, 2025
Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans has expressed his robust support for his latest movie "Him," despite it receiving unfavourable reviews. Currently, the film only holds a 28% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Nonetheless, Wayans took to Instagram on the movie's release day, Sept. 19, to motivate his fans to disregard the critical reviews and see the movie for themselves.
"While I respect critics and the significant role they play in shaping our industry, their views aren't universal," posted Wayans. "Innovative films are often ahead of the curve and not immediately appreciated. Art is subjective and open to interpretation. Throughout my career, I've made films that weren't initially critically received yet went on to be classics, so don't get swayed by others' opinions - go see for yourself."

Accompanying his words, Wayans uploaded screenshots of poor Rotten Tomatoes ratings of his other projects which include "White Chicks" and "Scary Movie," despite their commercial success and cult followings.
The film "Him" features a promising, young quarterback (played by Tyriq Withers) being drafted into the NFL. Marlon Wayans plays a legendary player who mentors him about attaining success and advancing in the league. However, the film highlights the numerous required sacrifices - both symbolic and literal - for making a name in the field.
