- Jun 8, 2025
Brad Pitt's exciting summer blockbuster "F1" has finally been screened for film critics and the initial assessments highlight it as a thrilling and visually captivating movie about racing.
Significantly noted for its impeccable tech elements of the film was Variety's Senior Artisans Editor, Jazz Tangcay, who lauded the impressive sound, score and cinematography. Various other critics also commended the high caliber of the movie, including Variety’s Chief Awards Editor Clayton Davis, who singled out the cinematography work of nominee Claudio Miranda, known for his work on "Top Gun: Maverick."
Critics are also praising the engaging storytelling and performances. Brad Pitt plays the lead role of retired formula one racer Sonny Hayes, who endured a horrific crash earlier in his career. Pressured to exit retirement, Sonny takes on the role of coaching a young prodigy, portrayed by Damson Idris, to contest in the Apex Grand Prix race.
The movie was skillfully directed by Joseph Kosinski, acclaimed for directing "Top Gun: Maverick". Kosinski, alongside producer Jerry Bruckheimer and F1 star Lewis Hamilton, realized the film, with supporting roles played by talented actors Javier Bardem and Kerry Condon.

While reflecting on the making of the film at an online press conference, Kosinski unveiled his growing affinity for F1 racing, which started after he watched Netflix’s racing series "Drive to Survive" during the COVID pandemic.
The unique filming process involved the crew and actors travelling on the F1 circuit for a year to accurately capture real races. This rigorous process paid off providing authentic crowd reactions, adding to the film’s compelling authenticity.
The movie is set to hit theaters on June 27 via Apple and Warner Bros.
