“Rhythm Is a Dancer,” an uplifting coming-of-age dramedy by actor-turned-filmmaker Lauren Caster, has made its way to the American Film Market (AFM) seeking worldwide sales. The film is a production by HMJ72 Productions. It tells the story of Ro (played by Caster), a passionate but struggling dancer who returns home after years of absence to meet her biological father for the first time. This emotional journey forces her to face multifaceted aspects of her unconventional upbringing while she embarks on rediscovering her artistic voice through unexpected friendships.

The film also boasts a talented cast, featuring Tate Donovan from “Rocketman” and “Argo”, Amy Aquino from “Bosch” and “The Good Fight”, and Floriana Lima from “The Punisher” and “Supergirl.”

The film received a warm reception when it premiered at the Austin Film Festival in October. Currently, it is actively looking for international sales representation and distribution. Executive Producer Jerry Morey from HMJ72 Productions is attending the AFM to discuss potential collaborations.

Caster’s previous work includes recurring roles in shows like “PlayStation Girl,” “HitRECord on TV,” “Stitchers,” and “Dark Woods.” She has also showcased her versatility by writing, producing, and starring in multiple short films, such as “Baby Got Books,” “Donor Baby,” “Plan C,” and “Becoming.”

HMJ72 Productions, co-founded by Caster and producer Morey, is a Los Angeles-based independent film production company. Its main focus is developing and producing emotionally charged stories with strong character arcs.

An exclusive industry screening of “Rhythm Is a Dancer” is slated for Thursday, Nov. 13, which will witness Donovan, Lima, and Caster among the attendees.
