Ryan Reynolds Pitches Idea for R-rated Star Wars Film
- May 25, 2025
Ryan Reynolds, known for his work on Disney’s R-rated MCU flick “Deadpool and Wolverine,” intrigued fans during an appearance on “The Box Office” podcast. Reynolds shared that he presented a pitch to Disney for an R-rated Star Wars movie. The actor clarified that his concept doesn't intend to display vulgarity but instead seeks to use the R-rated platform as a vessel for deeper emotional content. He questioned why studios refrain from taking calculated risks on concepts such as this.
The Star Wars franchise has, to date, never ventured into the territory of R-rated content. Its slightly matured content comes from its recent TV series "Andor," which navigates darker themes.

Reynolds' proposed R-rated Star Wars film would also not star him as an actor. Expressing his intent to participate in the project's development as a writer or producer, he touched upon the scarcity provided by Star Wars' recurring appearance on Disney+ and the capacity to contain unexpected surprises.
The Star Wars franchise looks set to continue its narrative with "The Mandalorian and Grogu" and “Star Wars: Starfighter,” directed by Shawn Levy, known for directing Reynolds in "Deadpool and Wolverine," "The Adam Project," and "Free Guy,” and starring Ryan Gosling.
