Sarah Jessica Parker Talks 'Hocus Pocus 3' Development
- Jul 15, 2025
Sarah Jessica Parker recently made an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live!” where the topic of “Hocus Pocus 3” was broached. Disney had announced two years prior that the film was in development, but had not provided further updates. Nevertheless, Parker affirmed her commitment to the project, stating, “No more developments other than we would like to do it. We’ve been having some conversations.”
In 1993, Parker took the lead in “Hocus Pocus” alongside Bette Midler and Kathy Najimy as the Sanderson sisters, a trio of witches who are resurrected on Halloween and make various ploys to stay alive. All three stars reprised their roles for “Hocus Pocus 2” in 2022.
One year ago, Najimy urged Disney to expedite the script for “Hocus Pocus 3,” given the advancing age of the actors involved. She humorously remarked: “I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings. I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”

Jen D’Angelo, the screenwriter of “Hocus Pocus 2,” confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that "Hocus Pocus 3" was still a work in progress after the end of the WGA strike in 2023. D’Angelo expressed optimism towards the project's direction and characters, especially Hannah Waddingham's mother witch, and welcomes the chance to continue the enchanting story.
The celebratory response to “Hocus Pocus 2” has ignited ambition and excitement towards the sequel. The film achieved high ratings on Nielsen's Top 10 streaming charts during its opening weekend, with a record-breaking 2.7 billion minutes watched. It also earned the title of most-watched original film on Disney+ upon its release. Anne Fletcher, the director of “Hocus Pocus 2,” is confirmed to lead the third installment as well. Parker's complete interview on “Watch What Happens Live!” is available in the video below.
