Short Film 'Elderwood' Reunites 'Succession' Actors Peter Friedman & David Rasche
- Jul 13, 2026
Peter Friedman and David Rasche, known for their roles as Frank Vernon and Karl Muller in HBO's 'Succession', will once again share screen time in the short film 'Elderwood'. Directed by Luke Gardiner, the film, lasting for 15 minutes, also features Laura Esterman known for 'Addams Family Values' and 'I Know This Much Is True'.
The plot revolves around Atticus, a subdued widower whose uneventful reality gets stirred as a dynamic couple moves in as his neighbors in a senior living community, introducing him to unforeseen late-life experiences.
The film, written by Gardiner and Lucia Perri, was shot in Peekskill, New York's Drum Hill Senior Living facility. Both Esterman and Rasche appreciated director Gardiner's clear vision and the uniqueness of the script. They also praised the performances by their co-actors. Friedman particularly noted the originality of the story.

The director expressed his desire of portraying the emotional complexities often witnessed in senior living while drawing parallels with his own coming-of-age experiences, through 'Elderwood'. The film, he said, allowed them to portray the rich narrative of coming-of-age films in the unusual setting of senior living society.
Gardiner praised the cast for their commitment despite the hardships of independent filmmaking, acknowledging the trust they placed in a director considerably younger than them.
'Elderwood' came into fruition with the efforts of producers Oliver Schneider and Casey Friedman of February Problem Films, a newly established New York independent production company. The team also included Jack Levine, Haiba Khan, and Joe Meyer, with IACON Pictures providing production services.
