Sales agent MoreThan Films announced on Monday that Sophy Romvari's critically acclaimed drama 'Blue Heron' has been sold to Flamingo Films (Spain), Cherry Pickers (Benelux), Kinova Art Distribution (Turkey), and Potemkine Films (France). The film first appeared at the Locarno festival and received the Swatch First Feature Award along with a positive reception at Toronto, San Sebastián, London, and Gent.

'Blue Heron' was described by Guy Lodge, Variety’s critic, as a “graceful, heartfelt debut feature” proficient in portraying the complexities of memory and the significance of subtle, often overlooked details. Potemkine Films' CEO Nils Bouaziz praised the film for its “quiet power” and “rare emotional precision.”

MoreThan Films expressed proudness in partnering with distributors who share similar editorial and curatorial viewpoints. They have confidence in these distributors to formulate the best release strategies for respective territories. Lidia Damatto, at MoreThan Films, is thrilled with the wide-ranging interest from international distributors and the film's audience connectivity.

'Blue Heron' is an autobiographical tale from Romvari, recounting the life of a Hungarian immigrant family that moves to Vancouver Island and the distressing changes in the behavior of the eldest son. Romvari emphasized her film's purpose goes beyond personal storytelling; it aims to resonate universally with audiences about shared experiences.

In her directorial debut, Romvari steered away from the documentary format of her previous works, seeking for precision and creative control in crafting the narrative. She used fiction as a medium to express vulnerability and personal themes more effectively. She further added that her future work would continue to be personal but mostly via her directorial perspective.
