Making a transition from cinemas to the home video platform, action-comedy "The Running Man" is set for release on Paramount+ on January 13. The movie stars Glen Powell and is directed by Edgar Wright. The plot, adapted from a novel penned by Stephen King under his favored pseudonym, Richard Bachman, unfolds in a dystopian future. The protagonist, Ben Richards (played by Powell), is a marginalized blue-collar worker who takes part in a televised game show named “The Running Man” to elevate his family from destitution. He needs to elude the network's hired assailants and the general population for 30 days to claim the prize of $1 billion.

The supporting cast of the movie includes Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, William H. Macy, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, Emilia Jones, Daniel Ezra, Jayme Lawson, and Sean Hayes.

"Running Man" made its debut in 3,534 theaters on November 14, courtesy of Paramount. The production by Wright, Simon Kinberg, and Nira Park, generated $16.5 million in box office revenue in the opening weekend, ranking second to "Now You See Me: Now You Don't". The movie raked in over $69 million worldwide against a budget of $110 million and garnered a mixed response among critics.

Remarkably, this is the second screen adaptation of King’s source material. The original "Running Man", a TriStar Pictures production, was directed by Paul Michael Glaser and featured Arnold Schwarzenegger in the lead role as Richards, released way back in 1987.
