"The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" Trailer Unveiled

Nintendo and Universal gave fans a sneak peek of the “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” through a trailer released during a recent Nintendo Direct livestream.

The footage introduces viewers to the transformed mini-Bowser, a prisoner to Mario and Luigi after eating a Mini Mushroom in the first film. Mario and Luigi tease Bowser as he unsuccessfully attempts to woo Peach with his portrait. The real adventure unfolds as the characters witness dozens of shooting stars, pointing towards unforgettable interstellar adventures, similar to the original "Super Mario Galaxy" video game. Their journey takes them through a plethora of planets, including a water planet and a desert one featuring upside-down pyramids from 2017’s “Super Mario Odyssey”.

In this thrilling sequel, Mario, Luigi and their companions cross paths with Bowser’s son, Bowser Jr., and meet the fearless princess Rosalina, voiced by Brie Larson. Bowser Jr., just as in the 2002's "Super Mario Sunshine", wields a magical paintbrush, turning himself into a metallic weapon. Rosalina, on the other hand, uses her magic wand to singlehandedly defeat a spider-like robot.

Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Charlie Day reprise their roles as Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser, Toad, and Luigi, respectively. The second installment in the successful movie franchise follows the eponymous plumber as he travels the galaxy to collect Power Stars in a bid to save Princess Peach from Bowser's cosmic prison.

The franchise's first movie, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”, released in April 2023, grossed a staggering $1.3 billion worldwide, making it the fifth-highest-grossing animated movie ever. With Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic directing again, and Matthew Fogel responsible for penning the script, expectations are high for this sequel. “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” is looking to take audiences on another cosmic ride when it premieres in April 2026.
