The New Toyota EV

Toyota announced they are building an electric pickup truck. Here’s what we know.

Toyota recently announced that they are building an electric pickup truck. Just a few years ago, the thought of an electric pick up was probably far-fetched. Trucks are like working horses. They’re meant to tow, haul, and travel on off-road places. The coolest trucks use diesel and diesel is a far cry from electric.

But, what I say doesn’t really matter. Let’s take a look at what Toyota is going to roll out.

How Big Will It Be?

The dimensions were somewhat in between a Tacoma and a Tundra which makes sense. The Tacoma is the most popular compact track on the market. But if there’s only going to be one electric model, then they need to cater to the people who need the full-size pickup truck for utility’s sake.

What’s Included?

We honestly don’t have that much information at this point. It was more of a “reveal” than a press release. There’s no name or clear specs yet. However, we do know that it’s a 4-door crew cab configuration with a short bed.

The large off-road-looking tires suggest that we could probably get some type of TRD package on this model as well.

The headlights look like they might belong to the next generation, as well as the front grill. The example shown comes with a white body and black trim, which means we might see this model available in their black-out add-on package.

Buy It or Not?

We’re seeing manufacturers cater to the eco-conscious movements with all sorts of electric cars and trucks aren’t very far behind. Ford is making an electric F-150, and Tesla is making the Cybertruck.

My honest opinion? Get a smaller electric car if that’s the route you want to go. But let’s leave some things as they are. I would be sorely disappointed if in a few years I wouldn’t be able to buy a truck that wasn’t powered by gasoline.

As a traditional off-road enthusiast, I’m not sure if my opinion matters though. This choice will probably be really popular amongst the weekend warrior crowd. It makes an environmentally friendly commuter vehicle, but still makes off-road adventures possible.
