Heidi Klum, 53, spent months teasing a "very, very bloody" Halloween costume. On Saturday night in New York, she arrived as a giant severed hand.

It was a copy of her own left hand, right down to her wedding ring.

The reveal came at her 25th annual Halloween party, at Cathédrale in New York City.

Only her eyes and mouth showed, CBS News reported, with blood running from her mouth and her tongue out. The fingers had long red nails, a thumb ring, and her engagement ring and wedding band. Where the wrist should be, ligaments and tendons dangled off the top.

She didn't arrive alone, either. Helpers in blood-stained hazmat suits walked her in.

"Hands down, the hardest thing"

The idea came from looking at her own hand. "I looked at my hand and I thought, 'Hey, I think I could fit my body in this somehow,'" she told CBS News.

It took about six hours just to get into it on the night, she told E! News. "My team, they spent months doing this."

Getting around in it was another matter.

Hands down, the hardest thing is carrying it. It's quite heavy.

A secret message for her husband

Her husband, Tokio Hotel guitarist Tom Kaulitz, missed the party because he was on tour.

So she brought him along anyway. The hand includes a tattoo of his name on the ring finger, CBS News reported, along with her real palm lines and veins.

"A little bit of Tom is with me," she said.

It tops a long list. Over 25 years Klum has turned up as Medusa, a peacock, an 8-foot Transformer, the werewolf from Michael Jackson's Thriller, a room of her own clones, and, in 2022, a worm reeled in on a fishing line.

Her guests made an effort too. Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka came as the twins from The Shining, and James Charles spent seven and a half hours turning into Yzma from The Emperor's New Groove, E! News reported.

But nobody else at Cathédrale needed a team of people in hazmat suits just to walk through the door.
