Iconic mystery-adventure video game franchise “Broken Sword” from Revolution Software is set to get its big screen adaptation. Renowned scriptwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos, known for his works on Disney’s live-action “Beauty and the Beast”, is in charge of the screenplay. The "Broken Sword" film project will also see collaborations from producer Story Kitchen and Revolution's creators.
Charles Cecil is the brain behind the "Broken Sword” series, which started its journey in 1996 with “The Shadow of the Templars.” The tale unfolds with daring American character, George Stobbart and French journalist Nicole Collard, as they unravel church conspiracies set in various European scenarios.
Over three decades, the franchise has released five titles which have been played by over 10 million players, marking its influence as one of the path definers for contemporary storyline-centric games. Recently, a Kickstarter campaign launched by Revolution Software for their latest "Broken Sword" recreation, "Smoking Mirror Reforged", successfully achieved nearly $1 million against a target of $68,000.

In addition to the "Broken Sword” movie, Spiliotopoulos's writing portfolio boasts of movies such as “The Unholy,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales," and G.I. Joe’s “Snake Eyes.” Story Kitchen, producer of high-profile TV and film adaptations of video games, is also working on the "Broken Sword" film with Charles Cecil and his associate, Noirin Carmody.
Story Kitchen Co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg praised the enduring relevance of the "Broken Sword" franchise while emphasizing their commitment to faithfully translating the game's world into the film medium. Revolution Software founder, Charles Cecil, expressed his excitement about the collaboration and reiterated a shared commitment to maintain the essence of "Broken Sword” in its cinematic adaptation.
