Brooke Averick's Debut Novel Gets Netflix Film Adaptation
- Jun 18, 2026
Podcaster and author Brooke Averick can now add screenwriter to her repertoire as her debut novel, "Phoebe Berman's Gonna Lose It," is being worked into a movie by Netflix. This comes following an intense bidding war for the film rights of the novel, which enjoyed two weeks on the New York Times' bestseller list shortly after its release in late-May.
Averick's novel dives into the story of Phoebe Berman, a young woman struggling with intimacy anxiety and thoroughly self-conscious about her lack of romantic experience. Frustrated yet hopeful, she drafts a unique 'Guide to Losing My Virginity' checklist in an audacious attempt to finally find love and intimacy, leading to an unexpected surge in her formerly stagnant romantic pursuits.
Elizabeth Cantillon who has prior experience in producing successful book adaptations, is overseeing this adaptation, supported by a script from acclaimed screenwriter Sarah Heyward. Averick herself, a comedic podcaster with over 1.5 million followers across her platforms, will serve as an executive producer on the project.

Besides her successful “Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast”, Averick also formerly hosted a solo podcast channel, "Obsessed with Brooke Averick." Other collaborators on her latest venture, Cantillon and Heyward, have a list of celebrated entertainment projects under their belts, including screen adaptations, widely loved TV series, and the renowned James Bond films.
The movie rights to "Phoebe Berman's Gonna Lose It" were secured before the novel's release, thanks to negotiations managed by UTA on behalf of Averick. This eagerly anticipated adaptation promises to be another exciting step in Averick's flourishing career.
